Mike the coonhound wants a home!
Imagine how hard it is to be a huntin' dog when you are afraid of gunfire... Imagine being left to starve to death in a high kill gassing shelter (the shelter has now moved to a more "humane" death by injection) because you were so skinny and sad looking that nobody looked at you. Imagine being so scared that you wouldn't play with other dogs...wouldn't interact with your caretakers..and didn't know how to just be a dog. Imagine thinking that every day would be your last and knowing there was no way out except the black garbage bag that will hold your lifeless body when it is tossed into the local landfill with all the other unwanted dogs and cats that flood the shelter system.

Then imagine one day when you are sitting in the back of your wet concrete kennel with improper lighting that you hear a different set of footsteps approaching your door. Footsteps that actually stop instead of passing you by. Then you hear a voice reach out to you and feel gentle hands on your worn out old body..hands that pet instead of hit...hands that promise you a better life. Then you find yourself loaded up into a strange pet crate and loaded into a strange van and taken to a place they call a rescue and put into a large run with a big dog house and a bowl of food and a pan of clean water. Imagine seeing a vet for maybe the first time in your life...getting your shots to keep you healthy and being fed good food to help you gain all your lost weight.

Slowly you become a real dog again gaining weight and learning to play with your caretakers and other dogs and finding your new "best buddy" to share your kennel with. You begin to know that hands don't hit..they pet and show love. That people bring food every single day and fresh water always fills your buckets. You go on walks and spend time being loved. Winter brings warm straw in your kennel and warm water in your food. Life is good again but all you want is a home of your very own.

My name is Mike and I am a failure as a hunting dog but I make a heck of a couch dog! Will you be my forever family that I've been looking for for so long?

I am VERY sweet and love to be petted and give kisses. I am good with the other dogs here as well as the kids however at this point the rescue is unsure about cats. I do not know if I'm housebroken (but I assume not)...

I'm going to make a great couch potato for someone! And you'll love to hear me sing :o)I also play well with other doggies as you can see in the picture of my and my big friend Kiss...

Can I come home with you?
